iPhone4 VoIP FaceTime free voice and video calling over over wifi

With  iPhone 4G, you can enjoy the free international video calling from iPhone-to-iPhone. The iphone iOS4 comes with inbuilt application FaceTime where you don’t need special account or screen name to start the video calling.

iPhone 4 has two built-in cameras, one on the front above the display and one on the back next to the LED flash. The front camera has been tuned for FaceTime with right field of view and focus. With one camera you can make HD calls in portrait and landscape modes.

Presently this feature is only available with wi-fi and may be later on it would be also available with 3G or 4G network. Please have a look at the video to see how it works.

Actually every 3G and wifi phone can have free international calls (you pay for internet data plan), but to make more money, mobile service providers block these kind of calls, this is one of the reason that iphone 3G or 4G video calls are not available.

  1. Please get back to letting us know of free calls by land line. most of us don't care the slightest bit about iPhone. You are starting to cater to very narrow segments of readers. Kindly get back to the basics we all signed up for. Thanks.

  3. Based on the articles I have read and comments such as those posted above, it is clear that Facetime is not fully understood. If Facetime is successful (and I don't see why is won't be), it will lead to free calls by land line and there will not be a need for rynga, skype, or gizmo5.

Facetime is a open standard (note that it is not called iFacetime) that will allow for free video AND voice-only calls. All you need is a internet connection, which everyone has nowadays, and a Facetime compatible device (for non-iphone users, I suspect that we should see $50 devices by the end of the year). Once there is mass adoption (I plan to get all my family members connected - particularly those living abroad), the land-line phone business will be gone and all calls will be free.

  4. It would be nice if facetime is released for PCs like windows 7, xp, linux, ubuntu so that calls between PC and phone is free.

  5. video conferencing, coupled with desk top sharing and great quality audio conferencing, all integrated on a web portal running on your PC. No need to leave your office and go to the corporate video conference room for attending a video conference. Most PCs and Laptops today already have a decent web camera built on to them. Low cost portable web cams are also widely available.
