Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus Review
Recently Reliance, TATA and BSNL have come up with wireless broadband which comes in a small pen drive size equipment. These are based on EVDO technology. We have got a chance of using Reliance Netconnect Broadband+, so here we have come to share the experience with our readers.
First we will see what Reliance is claiming -
- Fastest download speeds up to 3.1 Mbps
- Fastest upload speeds up to 1.8 Mbps
- Plug and Play
- Rotatable USB interface) with Huawei device
- Micro SD Card slot for data storage with Huawei device
- Broadband coverage in major big cities (32 cities) and seamless 1X network throughout India including 4.5 lakhs villages
Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ offering two devices to use their broadband wireless, Huawei EC168C and ZTE AC8710, We opted Huawei EC168C, as we find more utilities in that (Rotatable usb interface and SD card slot)
Now we will review, their claims and quality of service
Device and Installation
Device looks are nice and fairly modern.
Device is Plug and Play, as soon as you plug in your device, it will setup a virtual CD drive which will install software and 3G modem drivers in your system. But installation takes a little long time and after installation it will take another 2-3 minutes to load drivers, but this is a one time process. (If Plug and play doesn`t work you have a CD in package to install the software). Rotatable USB provides good flexibility as well as durability. (As an added bonus you have an extension usb wire in package). This device has an inbuilt MicroSD card Reader, which can provide you a fair amount of data storage. Well that’s an add on... Device is compatible for both High speed broadband and 1X CDMA. You can select the mode as HSD, CDMA 1X or Hybrid in RConnect Dialer Settings.
Performance
- When you press connect Button in Rconnect dialer it will hardly takes 20 SEC to connect.
- Maximum download speed which we have got is 1.2 Mbps (Not so bad)
- Minimum download speed 382 Kbps
- Average upload speed is 230 Kbps
Well on speed front reliance has passed our expectation. When we go for CDMA 1X coverage, we are able to get a speed of 95Kbps. This is best point with Reliance Netconnect broadband+, because if by any reason you loose broadband connectivity you have reliance 1X CDMA coverage.
* MicroSD card reader is little bit slow when it is compared with other card readers.
Account Management Flexibility
Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ lacks in this. You can not change your data plan online. You can check your used data with a lag of 24 hours. Every time you need a change in your account, you have to call customer care.
Cost of equipment
Well both equipment offered by Reliance Broadband will cost 3500 INR from your pocket. Right now this is same as other competitors are offering for wireless broadband service. But still we feel that reliance should consider this area. Remember Reliance old CDMA 1X data card, it started with 5000 INR and then after some time we are able to get it free when subscribing for 3 months data package. So there is a scope to reduce the price of the broadband device too.
Cost of data
I can say....... Very Costly
None of data plan is truly unlimited, Maximum you can get is 10GB that too in 1099 INR (for citywide) and 1750 INR. But I don`t think it is enough for a high speed data service. They claim this service is good to watch video, playing online games, but what will happen if you download 200MB in one hour of video watching.
Typically --
Video streaming/Hour = 245 MB of data
HD Video streaming/Hour = 400 MB of data
Normal Browsing/hour = 6 MB of data
Flash sites/hour = 80 MB of data
Voice chat/hour = 20 MB of data
So no you can choose a plan as per your requirements.
Moreover any additional data transfer will cost you 2 INR/MB , which is just double of TATA Indicom. So be careful while choosing your data plan and don`t go beyond data limits.
Basic plans for Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ are
299Rs Pay as you go ( per MB basis)
650Rs 1 GB
850Rs 2.5 GB
1099RS 5GB for nationwide
1099Rs 10GB for Citywide
1750Rs 10 GB nationwide
There is one 200Rs night add-on pack of 10GB , which is not available as of now.
Final Words
After considering everything, we can say that Reliance Netconnect broadband+ is good for people who want high speed wireless freedom; otherwise you must consider wired broadband services.

Tata Indicom QuickFinder Navigator and Quick Finder Maps
Never lose your way, that’s what TATA Telecom is saying. On Monday 20 April, TATA Teleservices has launched its location based GPS service. This is a unique type of service named as QUICKFINDER A-GPS (Assisted Global Positioning System) service. The first-of-its-kind location-based service will be available to Tata Indicom subscribers. This technology is powered by Qualcomm’s QPoint solution and gpsOne technology integrated into Qualcomm chipsets. A-GPS service uses the most advanced positioning methodology to provide users with precise position information, including inside buildings and structures, Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director of Tata Teleservices Limited, said.
Present GPS technology work best only when the GPS antenna is visible to open sky and can fail to determine the users first fix point if the antenna is not visible or is only partially visible. Furthermore, conventional GPS systems may take between one and 10 minutes for first start point, even in the case of open sky. QUICKFINDER overcome these problems with a hybrid system that uses both A-GPS and gpsOne technology to deliver fast and accurate results. It will provide users start position in seconds and with accuracy up to and within 5-10 meters.
Right now TATA has launched QUICKFINDER service in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Ahmedabad and only with two handsets
- Blackberry 8830 World Edition
- MotoRAZR V3
Special Features:
- You can receive directions from a specific start point to a specific destination.
- The QuickFinder Navigator will give you real-time guidance…so you will know exactly where you are at any point in time.
- Voice guided driving instructions
- Notification of wrong path.
- Pan in on the map on all 4 directions and zoom in and zoom out on your screen.
- SMS your location to friends and family (only on Moto Razr).
You can find relevant POI’s from multiple categories like Apartments, Entertainment & Shopping, Hotels & Dining, Travel & Tourism. You can also search for POI’s by name.
Steps to get Quick Finder

Mobile Review : Nokia 5800 Express Music
Nokia`s 5800 Express Music for is fully touch screen phone which proves that Nokia is serious in touch screen phone business. This is the first device to run on Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5. XpressMusic Brand help this phone to prove its power as a music phone. This phone comes in mid-high range of phone with a strong Nokia Brand name, quality music and touch screen features.
Before reviewing this phone let's have a look on its main features.
* Symbian S60 5th edition
* Dimensions 111 x 51.7 x 15.5 mm, 83 cc

* Talk time Up to 8 h 45 min (2G) / 5 h (3G)
* Music play Up to 35 h
Now we will review phone by its features............
Design and construction
Nokia 5800 has a long body with elegant color screen, display of 16:9 is unique , Samsung F490 is probably the only handset to be used as a reference. I can tell you one thing that Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has its own identity in looks , just like IPhone has. No doubt Nokia will be proud of this design.
Impressive high-resolution screen
The Communicator series and the exotic 77xx tablets aside, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic 3.2" display is the largest in the family. The resolution of 360 x 640 pixels is also second to the E90 business monster. In fact, outside the Windows Mobile realm there isn't any other device to match the display resolution (Not even the Omni).
Operating Platform
Series 60 is always a better performing platform in terms of customizing and better UI. This device proves S60 capability to transform in touch screen UI. Overall we find it very good... It doesn`t hang like some previous devices.
Music and Radio
XpressMusic branding, actually it doesn`t satisfy up to a extent... User interface is quite similar as S60 3rd edition version. There are few small changes but music player interface could be more better.
Coming to music quality , it's very good and you can say one of the best in Nokia.
Simple interface of FM radio on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic can automatically scan and save the available stations in your area with RDS support.
Video playback
Well video playback will set Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in back foot. It supports a limited number of codecs, no DivX and Xvid. This issue was not there in previous versions of S60 as third party applications are available for them. Developers yet to come with a solution for this issue in 5th edition of the S60 UI.
Accelerometer Gaming
Accelerometer-based games were the most attracting features of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It comes with two preinstalled games and only one of them could make use of the sensor. Control is not that much good and but big high resolution screen and touchpad always an advantage for gamers.
GPS (Global Positioning System)
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic comes with a built-in GPS receiver , and it seems a highly sensitive unit. The handset was quick enough start in a moving car in about two minutes. A-GPS might have sliced a few additional seconds when you turn it on.
VOIP( Voice over IP)
There is no SIP-client built-in. But you can install other sip-clients on it. Well Fring will be the best suit for 5800.
Total box Contents
We cannot remember a mobile who offered this much in the box without getting out-of-reach kind of high-end. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic comes with an 8GB memory card. There is also a microUSB cable to use for your data connections, a TV-out cable that normally ships with high-end N-series models only and a two piece hands free. It's 3.5mm on either end so you can easily replace the provided headset without sacrificing the remote.
Price in India --- Approx Rs 18500
Price in Europe --- Approx Euro 250-350
Price in USA --- Approx 370$ for unlocked
Main disadvantages:
* Symbian S60 5th is new so software availability is limited
* User Interface is not very much good
* No smart dialing
* Poor image quality , comparing with other phones of same class
* Touch web browser not as good as IPhone`s Safari
* Unavailability of voice-guided navigation in GPS
* you cannot charge mobile with micro USB
At the end we still feel Nokia 5800 is a worthy deal. You will get interface that not as competitive as others are having in same range but the package you get for 250Euro with a brand name of nokia is still a fair deal..
Over all We can give 4 out 5 to Nokia 5800 XpressMusic because of its cost to feature stats.

Photon Plus :Tata Indicom Launches Hi-Speed Wireless Broadband with Photon+ in India
Forget the word SLOW internet speed. Tata Indicom has launched its High Speed Internet Access (HSIA) with brand name of Photon+ . Basically Photon+ is converted name of EVDO (Evolution-Data Optimized or Evolution-Data only). EV-DO was designed as an evolution of the CDMA2000 (IS-2000) standard that would support high data rates and could be deployed alongside a wireless carrier's voice services.
Right Now TATA Indicom has launched this services in selected cities and moreover it depends whether Photon+ service signals are available in your area.
Photon+ claims speeds up to 20 times faster than regular CDMA data speed. Max downlink speed is 2.4 Mbps. This speed depends on various factors like Network strength and time of day. Well we have checked this and we got speed of 1.2 Mbps checked throush 2wire.com speedmeter.
Cost of the service is ,you can say is not so expensive. But this gives you wireless freedom. Photon+ basic plan starts with Rs 500/month with download limit of 0.5 GB. Higher plan is of 1250Rs/month with limit of 15GB traffic. Every Extra usage is charged Rs1/MB

Jaxtr: Call free to India and Pakistan with FreeConnect
Few months ago, Jaxtr launched FreeConnect feature which enables you to make unlimited free calls between listed free countries. Recently they added India and Pakistan in their free list.
The basic concept of free connect is to save international calling rates while both the persons (caller and receiver) will call a local access number in their country to get connected. Hence you pay only for the local calls, if you have unlimited local calling plan, then this call is almost free.
Lets take on example of adding one Indian number (+91-99XXXXXXXX) in Italy and how does it work.
Jaxtr gives you a local number and tell you to
Dial +39-02XXXXXXXX (Milan access number) to reach +91-99XXXXXXXX.
Save this number to your mobile phone so that you can call +91-99XXXXXXXX without access numbers or PIN.
Tell +91-99XXXXXXXX to call +91-22-XXXXXXXX (Mumbai access number) now, and at any other time, to talk with you for free.
How do You make this a free call with jaxtr?
After you call the local jaxtr number above, choose the FreeConnect option from the main menu (press "0" for main menu, and then press "2" for FreeConnect). When you choose FreeConnect, the friend you are calling receives a notification (via SMS and/or email) with a local number to call and get connected to you. Stay on the phone and wait for your friend to call in. Once your friend calls in, you can talk as long as you want at no charge from jaxtr. Note that your phone company regular charges still apply for the call to the jaxtr number.

Belgium Brazil Bulgaria Canada
Chile China Croatia Republic of Cyprus
Czech Republic Denmark El Salvador Estonia
Finland France Georgia Germany
Greece Guatemala Hong Kong Hungary
India Iran Ireland Israel
Italy Jamaica Japan Jordan
Latvia Lithuania Luxembourg Malaysia
Mexico Netherlands New Zealand Norway
Pakistan Panama Poland Republic of Korea
Romania Russian Federation Singapore Slovakia
Slovenia South Africa Spain Sweden
Switzerland Thailand United Kingdom United States
The problems:
Sometimes you do not know if your friend in India is calling back or not and you keep on waiting. Anyway its a good idea to talk for longer duration if you have unlimited calling plan and also good if you want to initiate the call from India.
I called for 4 minutes and the quality was reasonably good, but I had to inform my friend in India to call me back on this number.
