Nokia N97 gets Native Voip client(Sip client in Symbian V5 Phones)

Nokia had stopped Native SIP support after N95. I think N95 was the last VOIP supported Symbian Phone. After the launch of N97, Everybody was questioning NOKIA`s stand for stopping VOIP in high end phones. From that time there were several online petitions were filled from end users. Now it has came, NOKIA has released update for unblocking VOIP in N97. We have checked details on VOIP SIP client on NOKIA N97.

How to setup/use VOIP in NOKIA N97

Well procedure is simple, you just need to follow steps in correct sequence-

Before starting please make sure that you have latest Firmware on NOKIA N97. This will only work on that.

STEP 1:: Download and Install `InternetAdvSettings' by Nokia (just Google it you can find it easily) or Download SIP_VoIP_3_x_Settings_v2_0_en.sis from NOKIA

STEP 2:: Uninstall any old related application from Application Manager (like InternetAdvSetting' or anything that begins with 'SipSettings*')

STEP 3:: Install the downloaded application and Goto 'Advanced VoIP' under Settings >> Connectivity >> Admin Settings >> Net Settings

STEP 4:: Setup a SIP profile as per settings received from your SIP provider. For this goto Settings >> Connectivity >> Admin Settings >> Sip Settings >> New Sip Profile

Check SIP setting for N97 Here

STEP 5:: Setup VOIP SIP as required from NOKIA SIP VOIP Manual

Now you will be able to use VOIP through SIP on your Nokia N97..

What`s Next... What about VOIP in Sony Ericsson Satio or Samsung Omnia i8910 HD. Both of the devices are having the same Symbian series 5 operating system.. Lets see when Samsung and Sony announce Firmware update for VOIP integration.

  1. Seems odd that Nokia stopped support after the N95 only to release an VoIP update on the N97.
